Chapter Check
A careful, quiet proofread that understands fiction — dialogue, invented names, dialect, and your own story world.
Chapter Check reads the current chapter for spelling, grammar, glossary consistency, and repeated words — all on your machine, so nothing leaves your computer and it costs no tokens. Crucially, it's tuned for novels: it won't nag you about profanity in dialogue, rhythmic repetition, casual words like "ok" and "gonna", or the invented names that fill a story world.
Chapter Check — issues grouped by kind
- 1Open Chapter Check from the Review menu — it checks the current chapter for you.
- 2Start on Overview for the counts, then open Proof to work through the issues.
- 3Click the eye on any issue to see it highlighted in the manuscript.
- 4Apply a suggestion, Add a name to your glossary, or Ignore what's deliberate.
Three Tabs
- Overview — an at-a-glance summary with a count for each kind of issue and your glossary memory
- Proof — the full list of findings, grouped and ready to act on
- Glossary — the story-world names it has learned, managed in one place
- It re-checks quietly as you type, so the counts stay current without you pressing anything
What It Catches
- Spelling — with sensible suggestions, and a light touch around fiction's informal words
- Grammar — genuine grammar help, with profanity- and voice-friendly rules turned off
- Glossary candidates — names and invented words it offers to learn
- Consistency — repeated words and other novel-specific slips (deliberate rhythm is left alone)
- Choose your dictionary — English (UK) or English (US) — from the top of the panel, with gentle notices when a word leans the other way
Acting on Findings
- Click a suggestion to replace that one occurrence, or replace every match across the chapter at once
- Add to glossary — teach ChapterMuse a name across your whole universe
- Approve repeated — accept a name that recurs throughout the chapter in one action
- Ignore a single issue, or Ignore all in a group; approvals and ignores apply across every book in the universe
- The eye button scrolls the manuscript to the exact spot
Adding a name to your glossary teaches it everywhere — it stops being flagged as a typo in every book in the universe, and it starts being recognised in your prose highlighting.
Chapter Check works on one chapter at a time. It is disabled in Continuous manuscript; switch to Single chapter to proof the active chapter.
