Command Palette & Shortcuts
Press Ctrl K to search and run any command; press Ctrl / to see every shortcut. Nothing to memorise.
Once ChapterMuse feels like home, the keyboard is the fastest way around. The command palette (Ctrl K) lets you search for any action by name and run it with Enter — no hunting through menus. And a built-in shortcut sheet (Ctrl /) lists every key combination, so you never have to remember them.
The command palette — type to run any command
- 1Press Ctrl K anywhere to open the command palette.
- 2Start typing — "focus", "analysis", "gallery" — and the list narrows as you go.
- 3Use ↑ / ↓ to choose, Enter to run, Esc to close.
- 4Press Ctrl / at any time to see the full list of keyboard shortcuts.
The Command Palette
- Opens with Ctrl K from anywhere in the app
- Search across everything you can do — grouped into "In this book", "Go to" (navigation), and "General"
- Inside a book it lists every panel and mode; elsewhere it jumps you to Story World, Manuscripts, the Story World libraries, Universes, Gallery, Research, or Export
- Runs the selected command with Enter — the same result as clicking the menu item
Every Shortcut
These are the built-in keys, exactly as the shortcut sheet lists them. On a Mac, press Cmd wherever you see Ctrl — the app treats them the same.
- Everywhere — Ctrl K command palette · Ctrl S Story Recall search · Ctrl / this shortcut sheet · Ctrl M Muse · Esc close the open panel or exit focus mode
- Writing — Ctrl Z undo · Ctrl Shift Z (or Ctrl Y) redo · Ctrl B bold · Ctrl I italic · Enter split the paragraph at the caret
- In a manuscript — Ctrl Shift F focus / typewriter mode · Ctrl Shift E Edit mode · Ctrl Shift D Read mode · Ctrl F Find & Replace · Ctrl G Glossary & Name Links · Ctrl H Chapter History · Ctrl N Chapter Notes · Ctrl J Snippets · Ctrl Shift N Read aloud
- Panels & tools — Ctrl Shift K Chapter Check · Ctrl Shift A Chapter Analysis · Ctrl Shift L Manuscript Lens · Ctrl Shift U Chapter Pulse · Ctrl Shift M Prose Metrics · Ctrl Shift P Podcast · Ctrl Shift O Word Cloud · Ctrl Shift G Plot Grid · Ctrl Shift H Characters panel · Ctrl Shift S Scene Designer
The palette and the in-app shortcut sheet are drawn from one list inside ChapterMuse, so the sheet stays in step with the panels it opens. Ctrl M for Muse works everywhere in the app — including from Story World and your libraries, not just inside a book.
