Glossary & Name Links
When your characters, places, factions, and items appear in the text, ChapterMuse can link them back to your world.
Your Story World and your manuscript don't have to live apart. With name highlighting on, mentions of your characters, locations, factions, and items are marked in the prose, colour-coded by type. Hover one for a quick preview, or jump straight to that entity's sheet — so a reader's question becomes a one-click answer.
Story-world names highlighted in the manuscript
- 1Turn on story-world name highlighting from the Tools strip — the "Highlight story-world names" toggle.
- 2As you write, known names pick up a subtle underline in their type's colour.
- 3Hover a highlighted name to preview the entity and open its sheet.
- 4Right-click a name to manage its story-world link — or a new name to add it — in the glossary.
What It Does
- Recognises the names of your characters, locations, factions, and items in the prose
- Colour-codes each highlight by type so you can read your world at a glance
- A hover card previews the entity — portrait, crest, or cover — with a jump to its sheet
- Open the glossary manager from the Manuscript menu (or press Ctrl G) to search, link, and unlink from one place
- Chapter Check uses the same glossary, so approving a name teaches the proofreader too
- Renaming a story-world name in Find & Replace updates the glossary automatically, so highlighting follows the new spelling
Notes on Card-less Terms
Some glossary entries aren't people, places, or things — a language, a motto, a coined term, a piece of lore. These don't get a full card, so the glossary manager gives them room of their own: a short main note, plus titled note sectionsin the detail column (above any research documents) for the depth a one-line definition can't hold.
- Add as many titled sections as a term needs — a pronunciation guide, its history, how it's used
- Muse can fill these in from your material too, adding new sections without ever touching what you wrote
- They live beside the term's research documents, so everything about it sits in one place
The glossary is shared across the universe. Teach ChapterMuse a name in one book, and it's recognised in every book in that continuity.
