Chapters & Variants
Your book's structure lives in the chapter drawer — add, reorder, restage, and branch alternate takes.
The chapter drawer slides in from the left and holds your whole manuscript — front matter at the top, your body chapters in the middle, back matter at the end. From here you add chapters, drag them into order, set each one's writing stage, and create variants when you want to try a scene a different way.
Chapter drawer — the manuscript structure
- 1Open the chapter drawer from the toolbar.
- 2Click New chapter to add one, or Add section for front / back matter.
- 3Drag a chapter up or down to reorder — numbers update automatically.
- 4Right-click a chapter for its options: rename, duplicate, restage, or delete.
Managing Chapters
- Add numbered chapters; front and back matter sit automatically in their canonical places
- Drag body chapters to reorder — numbering keeps itself tidy
- Rename a chapter inline, or leave it untitled for numbered genre fiction
- Set a per-chapter writing stage — First Draft, Revised, Polished, or Complete
- Pin a book to the title-bar quick-links from the drawer
Variants
Any chapter can hold one or more variants — alternate versions of the same scene. Try a completely different approach without touching your original: duplicate a chapter (with or without its text), and switch between takes from the drawer. Promote a variant to "primary" whenever the new version wins.
A book's overall stage is derived from its chapters — weighted by how much prose sits in each — so the label on your cover reflects where the writing actually is.
