Formatting & Text Tools

Light-touch formatting and quick actions, right where your cursor is.

ChapterMuse keeps formatting deliberately simple — the marks fiction actually needs, and nothing that gets in the way. Use the toolbar or right-click any paragraph for bold, italic, and a proper em dash, plus colour and highlight for your own notes. The same menu handles rich-text copy and cut, clears working formatting, and exposes revision decisions while a named pass is active.

Paragraph right-click menu

Quick start
  1. 1Select some text, then press Ctrl/⌘ B for bold or Ctrl/⌘ I for italic.
  2. 2Right-click a paragraph for the full menu — including copy, cut, em dash, colour, highlight, and clear formatting.
  3. 3Select a name and choose Add to story world to create a character, place, faction, or item from it.
  4. 4Right-click and Save as snippet to stash a paragraph for reuse.

Formatting

  • Bold and italic — from the toolbar or Ctrl/⌘ B and Ctrl/⌘ I
  • A proper em dash (—) inserted at the cursor
  • Theme-aware text colour and highlight swatches that stay readable in every writing palette
  • Clear bold, italic, colour, and highlight in one action without stripping revision meaning
  • Colour and highlight are just for you — they're cleared automatically on export

Quick Actions

  • Add to story world — turn a selected name into a character, location, item, faction, or glossary term, and open its sheet
  • Save as snippet — stash the paragraph in your snippets library
  • Copy or cut a selection as rich text where the system clipboard supports it, with a plain-text fallback
  • Copy chapter — take the whole chapter to your clipboard as formatted text
  • Paste import — bring outside text in, split into paragraphs automatically

"Add to story world" is the fastest way to build your cast — write naturally, and promote names to real characters and places as they appear on the page.

Every great story starts with a single sentence.
