Front & Back Matter
The pages around your chapters — added from the same drawer, typeset correctly in Read mode.
A finished book is more than its chapters. ChapterMuse gives you proper front and back matter — a dedication, an epigraph, a prologue up front; an epilogue, author's note, and acknowledgments at the back. Each is added from the chapter drawer and lands in its correct, conventional position automatically.
Front and back matter in the chapter drawer
✦Quick start
- 1Open the chapter drawer and click Add section.
- 2Choose a front-matter type (dedication, epigraph, prologue…) or back-matter type (epilogue, afterword…).
- 3It appears in its canonical place — front matter above your chapters, back matter below.
- 4Switch to Read mode to see it typeset the way a book should be.
Available Sections
- Front matter — Dedication, Epigraph, Foreword, Preface, Prologue
- Back matter — Epilogue, Afterword, Author's Note, Acknowledgments, About the Author, Appendix
- Front and back matter always keep their canonical order, wherever you add them
- In Read mode, a dedication centres and an epigraph sits right-aligned and italic — proper typesetting
- Chapters and appendices take a title; the rest carry a fixed heading
✦
Only reach for these when you're ready — they change how your manuscript exports, and a well-placed epigraph can set the tone before the first chapter begins.
